Read More ... A Factorial experiment has been carried out on the basis of Random Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replicates for each treatment. Flowerpots with a capacity of (8 kg ) of soil have been prepared and filled with dry soil that was sifted using 2 mil sifter. Fertilizers have been added to Corn Zea mays according to recommendation. Corn was grown on the 15th july 2011. Irrigation processes were done depending on weight method to maintain soil moisture with the limits of moisture tension extent that represent tension rates of water ; 25%, 50% and 75% until 15102011. Then, the crop was harvested to calculate anatomical characteristics (epidermis cell count, length of epidermis cell, width of epidermis cell, length of stomata, width of stomata, No. of stomata in the upper surface, No. of stomata in the bottom surface and No. of motor cell). Below are the most important results.The increase in moisture consumption has significantly affected most of the studied anatomical characteristics. The moisture consumption rate 25% excelled were (124.587 micrometer, 21.79 micrometer, 37.082 micrometer, 21.050 micrometer, 14.025 stomata. Microfield-1, 22.00 stomata. Microfield-1, 3.9 motor cell), respectively, except epidermis cells count where the moisture consumption of 75% excelled was 65.250 cell. Microfield-1. Also, increasing the level of magnesium addition had significant effect; magnesium addition level 150 kgm.h-1 excelled was (116.7micrometer,21.0 micrometer, 36.7 micrometer, 21.7 micrometer, 13.7 stomata. Microfield-1, 22.7 stomata. Microfield-1, 4.0 motor cell), respectively, except epidermis cells count whose highest value was without the addition of magnesium, 66.3 cell. Microfield-1. As for the effect of Soil texture, the blend clay soil excelled the blend sand soil. The highest value was (126.0 micrometer, 20.96 micrometer, 35.90 micrometer, 20.831 micrometer, 12.8 stomata. Microfield-1, 21.25 stomata. Microfield-1, 3.6 motor cell), respectively, except epidermis cells count where the blend sand soil excelled with a highest value of 64.50 cell. Microfield-1.

Read More ... Forty specimens of surgically removed hydatid cyst were obtained from patients in different hospitals in Al-Anbar province. The aim of study was designed to determine the type of common larval stage (hydatid cyst) of echinococosis in Al-Anbar province according to PCR molecular differentiation.The study was carried out during the period from first day of January to the last day of December 2013.The age of patient ranged from (10 – ≥ 65 ) years old, (19 males and 21 females). A questionnaire paper was performed to each patient which includes information about age, sex,residence,occupation,exposure variable, water source, site of hydatid cyst and case history.From the obtained results, it's revealed that the age group (21 – 30 years) presented high hydatidosis parasitic infestation which was 35% , whereas the age group more than50 years presented low parasitic infection which was 2.5% . 47.5% of patients were males and 52.5% were females.Twenty eight(70%) patients live in rural areas. Also, twenty patients (50%) were exposured to livestock animals, (40%) of patients were farmers, twenty seven patients(68%) were consumed river water, The most common localization was the liver (65%). Purification of DNA was done by QIAamp DNA Mini kit from QIAGEN for cyst. Specific primers were designed for the diagnostic PCR. It amplifies a 133-basepair segment within the newly described repeated unit that amplified a target repeated sequence (EgG1 Hae III) newly identified in the genome of the common sheep strain of E. granulosus. Primer based on the flanking sequences allowed the PCR amplification of E. multilocularis, a fragment of mitochondrial 12S rDNA was amplified by PCR from human genomic DNA by using the cestode-specific primers 60 were used as targets for (PCR) amplification.The total number of the cysts specimens that gave positive results of E.granulosus by PCR was 37 (92.5%) patients and the number of specimens that gave negative results was 3(7.5%),while all specimens gave negative result of E. multilocularis by using PCR analysis.The present study showed that E. granulosus is a major causative of hydatidosis in Al-Anbar Province while E. multilocularis is not detected by using PCR approach.

Thirty two isolates of coagulase negative staphylococci was isolated and identified from clinical sources ; including eight isolates (12.5%) of each of Staphylococcus hominis and Staphylococcus haemolyticus from (64) patients urine which suffering from urinary tract infection and eight isolates (16%) of each of Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus auricularis from (50) ear patients which suffering from otitis in Rizgary teaching hospital in Erbil city were isolated depending on Vitek 2 compact system . The susceptibility tests by using disc diffusion agar method were determined for all isolated coagulase negative Staphylococci to 10 different antibiotics . From obtained results it was observed that all isolates were 100% sensitive to ceftriaxone and novobiocin, while higher resistance was obtained to tetracycline with percentage 50% and they showed differnt resistant to other remaining antibiotics. On the other hand, all isolated Staphylococcus hominis, Staphylococcus haemolyticus , Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus auricularis isolates were tested for tetracycline resistant genes tetK and tetM by using PCR and the results showed that 75% of Staphylococcus hominis, Staphylococcus haemolyticus and Staphylococcus epidermidis were carried tetM gene with product size about 158 bp while 50% of Staphylococcus auricularis was carried the above mentioned gen . Also it was found that 50% of Staphylococcus hominis and Staphylococcus haemolyticus isolates in this study were harboring tetK gene with product size 360 bp and no tetK gene was observed in Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus auricularis . Also the antibacterial effect of two local species of menthes against resistant isolated bacteria by using the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) method were studied . The results showed that the MIC for aqueous extract for both plants Mentha longifolia and Mentha piperita were 1600µg/ml and it were 1400µg/ml for alcoholic extract of both plants against most Staphylococcus speciese except Staphylococcus epidermidis which the MIC was 1200 µg/ml for aqueous and 1000µg/ml for alcoholic extract of Mentha piperita, while it was 1200µg/ml for both the aqueous and alcoholic extracts for Mentha longifolia.

Read More ... استهدفت هذه الدراسة عزل و تشخیص بکتیریا حامض اللاکتیک من 30 عینة اشتملت على اللبن و المخللات و اختبرت هذه العزلات فی قدرتها على إنتاج البکتریوسین و فعالیته فی تثبیط نمو بعض أنواع البکتیریا المرضیة . کما اشتملت الدراسة اختبار مدى ثباتیة البکتریوسین تجاه المعاملات الحراریة . أظهرت نتائج دراستنا الحالیة قدرة ثلاث عزلات من البکتیریا المستخدمة فی الدراسة على إنتاج البکتریوسین . و أثبتت الاختبارات التشخیصیة المزرعیة و المجهریة و الکیموحیویة التی أخضعت لها هذه العزلات أن عزلتین منها تعود إلى بکتیریا حامض اللاکتیک تحمل الارقام 2 , 14 . أظهرت نتائج الاختبار وجود تباین واضح فی قدرة راشح هذه البکتیریا على تثبیط نمو عزلات البکتیریا المرضیة . أظهرت العزلات الثلاثة فعالیة واضحة فی تثبیط نمو بکتیریا Staphylococcus بینما أظهرت العزلتین رقم 11 و 14 فعالیة تثبیطیة تجاه بکتیریا Streptococcus تتراوح أقطار التثبیط بفعل البکتریوسین لراشح العزلات الثلاثة من بکتیریا الاختبار (بعد استبعاد المواد المثبطة الأخرى بطریقة التسخین) على بکتیریا Staphylococcus قید الدراسة من تثبیط بشکل محدود (العزلتان 3 و 14) إلى تثبیط بقطر 12 ملم (العزلة 5) . یتمیز البکتریوسین المنتج بهذه الدراسة بثباته للفعالیة التثبیطیة عند معاملته بـ 60 °م و لمدة نصف ساعة. عند زیادة فترة التحضین للمزرعة السائلة للبکتیریا نلاحظ زیادة الفعالیة التثبیطیة للمواد المثبطة للنمو بشکل عام.
